Woodsorrel, Yellow: All About This Summer Weed

Yellow Woodsorrel
Rob Routledge, Sault College, Bugwood.org

How to Identify Yellow Woodsorrel

Woodsorrel, yellow, is a perennial weed with hairy stems and bright yellow flowers. It grows in moist to slightly dry conditions and prefers rich loamy soil, which contains clay and sand. It has alternating leaves along the stems, resembling heart shapes similar to clovers. If this annual weed emerges in spring, it can live for up to two years and requires pre- and postemergent control.

How Do You Kill Woodsorrel, Yellow?

You can easily control yellow woodsorrel with postemergent herbicides that contain triclopyr. However, you may need to apply the herbicide several times for more effective results. Applying pre-emergent herbicides in the spring can prevent the weed from emerging and germinating. Proper turf maintenance, such as regular mowing and watering, will also help to control this perennial weed.
