What is Ground Ivy?

Ground ivy is a common weed that creeps along the ground and covers the turf. It's a prostrate perennial with round, scalloped leaves and has a strong minty odor. It produces purple flowers in clusters and prefers moist, shady areas and can even tolerate low mowing heights, making it hard to eliminate with regular methods.

How to Get Rid of Ground Ivy

Controlling ground ivy is best during the fall, as well as in the spring when this weed has produced flowers. Herbicides containing triclopyr are most effective during spring and fall applications, including products with 2,4-D during the summertime. Reducing moisture in the soil can also help to prevent further spread of this perennial weed.
